The group is interested in how plants acquire inorganic nitrogen and how nitrogen status regulates gene expression. A multidisciplinary approach is being taken to define the physiological roles of high affinity ammonium and nitrate transporters in Arabidopsis thaliana. The molecular basis of nitrogen regulation is also being studied in this species. Lotus japonicus is used as a model to study symbiotic nitrogen fixation in legumes.
