Abstract:

Plants use environmental cues such as hours of light and temperature to regulate their growth responses. My team addresses this question by studying the interconnection between circadian and photoperiod perception and the TOR signalling pathway, a major growth regulator. Our research focus on S6K1, a direct TOR target which is conserved in most eukaryotes. We found that S6K protein levels oscillate under different photoperiods and this regulation involves the 26S proteasome and the circadian-regulated F-box ZTL. Moreover, we observed that modulation of S6K accumulation in the presence of absence of a proper running clock will impact growth differently. Together our results provide detailed evidence on the mutual regulatory links between photoperiod perception, the TOR pathway and overall growth regulation.
