Post-doctoral position in plant cell biology

We are seeking a Post doctoral candidate to join our interdisciplinary team working at the interface of biology and physics to understand aspects of morphogenesis in plants. The position is available in the group of Dr. Arun Sampathkumar ( The lab uses advanced quantitative imaging approaches combined with molecular and micromechanical perturbations to understand how cells internal
cytoskeleton and the external cell wall function in influencing morphometrics at both cellular and tissue scales.

Applicants can refer to “Mechanical feedback-loop regulation of morphogenesis in plants” Development 2020, ( for more information on the topic of research.

The Sampathkumar lab is part of Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology in Potsdam, Germany. The institute is equipped with core infrastructure facilities dedicated to imaging, mass spectroscopy, proteomics, genomics, and plant growth. In addition, the neighboring Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces houses a biomaterials department with access to state of the art instrumentation that allows probing of physical properties of cells and tissues.

We are interested in highly motivated candidates with prior knowledge in developing imaging solutions and image analysis tools for application in biology. Experience in molecular biology techniques is an added advantage, but not a requirement. The candidate should hold a doctoral degree.

The applicant should have good interpersonal skills and be able to work in a collaborative manner within the lab as well as with other teams.

The candidate is required to send an application with a one page cover letter indicating clearly their scientific interest and how their skills fit the group’s research activities, their curriculum vitae and names and contact details of two referees to Dr. Sampathkumar (
